The New Central Railway Station in Brno, envisioned by the Dutch architectural firm Benthem Crouwel Architects, is set to become a modern gateway to the city. This project aims to revitalize the urban landscape, emphasizing connectivity, modernity, and sustainability. The station’s design incorporates references to historic public buildings in the region, creating a barrier-free district with improved pedestrian routes and an optimal layout for various transportation options.
Utilizing Virtuplex’s immersive VR platform, the architectural team collaborated in real-time to refine both the interior and exterior designs of the station. This VR-based approach provided critical insights into the design and functionality of the space, supporting the optimization of the layout for passenger needs, enhancing user experience, and facilitating approvals from municipal stakeholders. The virtual model allowed stakeholders to experience the future station in a realistic 1:1 scale, offering a unique perspective on the project’s impact on the city’s infrastructure and daily life.
Virtuplex’s technology had a transformative impact on the workflow of the New Central Railway Station project, enabling immersive, real-time meetings that fostered collaboration among all stakeholders. By allowing international teams to make swift, aligned decisions, the VR approach reduced lead times and minimized costly design revisions. Early spatial testing and visual clarity also streamlined the municipality approval process, enhancing overall design quality. This innovative use of VR positioned the project as a landmark for modern, sustainable urban design in Brno.
